COURSE DESCRIPTION

Disruptive Laboratories, or D7, is designed as a foundational course for defensive shooting and judgemental use of force. In the world of defensive shooting and judgemental use of force, we can not “Train like we fight and fight like we train.” We simply cannot replicate the specific stresses and physiological responses that one might experience when fighting for one’s life. This is why the use of modern simulation systems are so valuable. Here at the Haley Strategic HQ in Scottsdale, AZ, we have one of the most advanced judgemental use of force simulators in the world. Our D7 Performance Lab, powered by Virtra, offers the user a unique experience to test both their thinking and shooting skills. D7 courses offered are handgun, carbine, low light, night vision performance and judgmental use of force.

Our D7 curriculum consists of two and three day sessions housed at Haley Strategic headquarters. HSP will provide all weapons for the course. The class takes you over a brief review of the fundamentals from our D5, Disruptive Science, course curriculums, progressing into scenario based, judgemental use of force training. You will be taken through interactive training exercises to improve your hand-eye coordination, biomechanics and mental efficiency. The class size will be limited to five students to maximize the student to instructor ratio.

The D7 training program, powered by VirTra, is indeed one-of-a-kind and remains at the forefront of modern shooting simulators. The authenticity of the environments gives you an experience that bridges the gap between feel and real. The ability to create one-of-a-kind, realistic scenarios, gives us the most in-depth look into human performance. Our scenario based training simulator also utilizes the Threat Fire system. This system utilizes a low amperage “shock” to the user to simulate suffering a gunshot during an engagement. This then stimulates a body alarm response, further testing one’s ability to act and/or make crucial decisions. Merging world-class training with the latest technology, we can deliver to you, the true meaning of Thinkers Before Shooters™.

Core topics covered for all weapon systems:

  • Haley Strategic Train approach to learning
  • Why "science" and how to create a model for excellence
  • Individual belief systems
  • How deliberate practice accelerates learning
  • The brain: cognition, emotion and conation
  • The biology and neuroscience of learning
  • How critical stress (body alarm response) affects visual acuity and efficiency

D7 Handgun Judgmental Use of Force

Our multi day course formats focus on the science of the human body, brain and handgun performance. Handgun shooting and performance has its own unique challenges due to the weapon system itself and how we integrate that system into the mechanics of the human body. The D7 curriculum takes a deep dive into all of the human factors that affect both learning and performance. Once we develop a greater understanding of the body and brain, we then progress into scenario based training where the student can immerse into many different situations where they have to use good judgment, good angles and good tactics.

In addition to core topics:

  • Understanding the importance of performance caps for performance development
  • Development of natural point of aim and the science behind our natural sighting system
  • Biomechanical efficiencies in shooting stances
  • Principles of developing an efficient grip
  • Mechanics and maximizing the efficiency of the draw
  • Principles of trigger control
  • Human eye movements and understanding precision and stress sight picture
  • How critical stress (body alarm response) affects visual acuity and efficiency
  • Understanding visual target accommodation
  • Movement efficiency and considerations in the reactionary gap
  • Fully immersive, stress-induced scenarios that simulate real-life, critical situations
  • Judgemental use of force
  • Verbal articulation under stress

D7 Carbine Judgmental Use of Force

Our multi day course formats focus on the science of the human body, brain and carbine performance. Carbine shooting and performance has its own unique challenges due to the weapon system itself and how we integrate that system into the mechanics of the human body. The D7 curriculum takes a deep dive into all of the human factors that affect both learning and performance. Once we develop a greater understanding of the body and brain, we then progress into scenario based training where the student can immerse into many different situations where they have to use good judgment, good angles and good tactics.

  • Judgemental use of force
  • Verbal articulation under stress

D7 Handgun Low Light Judgmental Use of Force

Our D7 Handgun Lowlight course consists of a 1-day clinic housed at Haley Strategic headquarters. We always schedule this in conjunction with a 2-day D7 Handgun in the event you would like to take a fundamental course before a low light course. HSP will provide all weapons for the course. The class takes you over a brief review of the fundamentals from our D5 program, then progresses quickly into scenario based, judgemental use of force training.

In addition to core topics:

  • Baseline assessment
  • Supplemental instruction relative to baseline results
  • Principles of low light, no light, and white light applications
  • Single hand (strong and support hand) shooting techniques
  • Handheld lighting techniques; FBI, Neck Index, Harry’s, Surefire Rogers
  • Weapons light employment and considerations
  • Assessment of environmental factors and how they relate to lighting applications
  • Appropriate searching techniques utilizing white light
  • Understanding visual target accommodation
  • Movement efficiency and considerations in the reactionary gap
  • Fully immersive, stress-induced scenarios that simulate real low-light, critical situations
  • Judgemental use of force in adverse, low-light environments
  • Verbal articulation under stress

Yet without training, the tool is far less effective. Our D7 Simulation NODs program will establish a fundamental understanding of night vision application, capabilities, limitations and how it impacts shooting performance. The class takes you over a brief review of the fundamentals of night vision employment, progressing into scenario based, judgemental use of force training. Every aspect of fundamental weapons manipulation and employment will be executed and explored under night vision. HSP will provide all weapons for the course.
