The Mission
Blackside is an experimental unit within the Haley Strategic R&D department. It was developed a few years ago to have a laser focus on “Keep It Simple Solutions" to solve difficult problems for the people that go into harm's way. We don't just innovate on a client's wants or requirements, we get deeply involved and mesh experience and technology with methodology to create not just a product solution but a new way of thinking.
Blackside is made up of personnel that are Jacks of all trades and maintain a lot of experience in the military, law enforcement, and rescue spaces. One of the unique aspects of Blackside is the creative flexibility, outside the box thinking, even breaking all the rules of traditional product design if necessary to get the job done without wasting our tax payer money.
Blackside products are available through multiple equipment procurement paths. Fires Pack
The Fires Pack was engineered in direct collaboration with NSW for SOCOM JTAC mission essential equipment. Designed for maximum mission adaptability, the Fires Pack can be worn as a stand-alone pack or integrated into a plate carrier utilizing the available load bearing system and also features both a jumpable and non-jumpable variant. The Fires Packs main compartment was designed for radio carriage of the PRC117G or PRC167 and features both top and bottom zippered openings for battery hot-swapping and radio management. The packs main compartment was also dimensioned to carry the LDT laser or (2) Carl Gustaf rounds (MAAWs Rockets) with the aid of a padded midline divider and extended top cover to accommodate the majority of the M3A1 MAAWs inventory of munitions. The exterior of the pack features a waterproof lid, a full MOLLE field on all outward facing panels, and pockets for M67 grenades (or similar sized items). The front of the pack features a zip on system for attachment of the provided external battery compartment. As a purpose built JTAC pack, the Fires Pack provides a comprehensive cable management system which integrates cable ports on both sides of every compartment to prevent exposed cables traveling to the HUB zone. The HUB zone located on the pack interior accepts any Harris, Black Diamond, Glenair, or Perfecta Hubs.

Controller FlatPack
The Controller FlatPack and Controller FlatPack Plus represent the culmination of numerous design revisions following end user feedback from JTAC operators directly involved in the product design. The Controller FlatPack retains the pedigree of the legendary FlatPack line with zippered expansion systems on both the main compartment and external compartment, but incorporates new features and materials custom tailored to the JTAC mission set. The Controller FlatPack features sealable ventilation ports on the top and side panels to dissipate heat generated from radios, power sources and data adapters as well as 21 power/data/antenna ports located internally and externally on the pack to meet the demands of modern communications equipment. The exterior side panels also feature a proprietary MOLLE/shock cord cable management system for secure storage of radio cables, radio antennas, or attachment of additional pouches and accessories. The Controller FlatPack is constructed from XPAC, a durable waterproof composite that incorporates aramid fibers allowing additional ports or vents to be directly cut into the pack without propagating. The main zippered interior of the Controller FlatPack is lined with loop material for incorporation of the RAD CAD and Hub Board organizational panels (or any hook and loop accessories). The Controller FlatPack also features the “TABLOC” attachment system on the front exterior of the pack enabling rapid and secure attachment of the new FlatPack panel accessories: General Purpose Panel, MOLLE Panel, and Flashbang Panel (custom tailored accessories panels available by request).

Assaulter FlatPack
The Assaulter FlatPack and Assaulter FlatPack Plus retains the pedigree of the legendary FlatPack line with zippered expansion systems on both the main compartment and external compartment, but incorporates new features and materials custom tailored to an assaulters mission set. The Assaulter FlatPack features 13 power/data/antenna ports located internally and externally on the pack to meet the demands of modern communications or GPS/Navigation equipment. The exterior side panels also feature a proprietary MOLLE/shock cord cable management system for secure storage of radio cables, radio antennas, charges, or attachment of additional pouches and accessories. FCS13 Pouch
The Aimpoint Fire Control System Pouch (FCS13) was requested by the US Marine Corps and developed in collaboration with Aimpoint for carriage of the FCS13RE (or any other similarly dimensioned sensitive equipment). The FCS13 Pouch features rugged 1000 Denier Cordura construction padded with internal hydrophobic closed cell foam for critical protection of the optic when not deployed on the weapon system. The pouch features an internal retention system, storage for backup batteries and can be attached to other packs and bags using the MOLLE mounting platform.

Radio Caddy (RAD CAD)
The Radio Caddy (RAD CAD) was designed in collaboration with NSW and AFSPECWAR ASOS units. The RAD CAD provides a rigid organizational panel for carriage of two handheld radios, such as the PRC-152A, PRC-161, PRC-163, PRC-148 MBITR and other MANET devices such as the Persistent Systems MPU-5. The RAD CAD features elastic pockets for secure radio retention without sacrificing accessibility for battery swaps as well as a proprietary MOLLE/shock cord cable management system for secure storage of radio cables and radio antennas. The RAD CAD was dimensioned for carriage inside the outer zippered pocket of the FlatPack and FlatPack Plus and also features a Velcro hook backer for carriage inside the main compartment of the FlatPack and FlatPack Plus (or any similar sized pack).

Radio Hub Board Caddy
The Hub Board was designed in collaboration with NSW and AFSPECWAR ASOS units. The Hub Board provides a rigid organizational panel enabling carriage of hub systems and auxiliary batteries. The Hub Board features an elastic pocket for secure auxiliary battery retention without sacrificing accessibility for battery swaps as well as a proprietary MOLLE/shock cord cable management system for secure storage of hubs and routing of cabling. The Hub Board was dimensioned to accommodate hubs as large as the GlenAir STAR-PAN VI and most of the common auxiliary batteries offerings from Galvion, WarriorPak, and UltraLife.

Carl Gustaf Pack
The Carl Gustaf Pack was designed in collaboration with SAAB to meet the fielding requirements of the MAAWS (Carl Gustaf 84mm Recoilless Rifle). The pack is capable of carrying (4) rockets to substantially increase the lethality and combat effectiveness of Carl Gustaf fire teams. The construction utilizes precision laser cut loading doors specifically tapered for carriage of the entire 84mm munitions suite and an aramid X-PLY laminate outer shell for unparalleled durability. The interior construction features aerospace grade expanding polyethylene foam reinforced by a rigid high-density polyethylene endoskeleton significantly reducing the overall system weight. The padded pack straps and newly developed Heavy Load Harness (HLH) provide a comfortable and balanced load carriage solution capable of rucking through even the harshest of environments.

Carl Gustaf Sling
The Carl Gustaf Sling was born out of necessity and enables end users to comfortably carry the M3A1 weapon system while on patrol. The Carl Gustaf Sling features a quick adjust system that enables rapid deployment of the weapon system as well as a quick disconnect system utilizing the proven Cobra buckle for rapid employment. The Carl Gustaf Sling was for easy installation and operation creating an intuitive solution where the weapons system becomes a natural extension of the body.

At the request of the US Marine Corps, the Carl Gustaf X Sling was developed to enable end users the ability to front carry, back carry and side carry the M3A1 weapon system while on patrol. The minimalist X harness design enables users to keep the sling on body at all times without added bulk or interference when donning and doffing packs, slings or other mission essential equipment. The Carl Gustaf X Sling features a quick adjust system and is configurable into 4 positions of carry around the body. The quick disconnect system enables rapid employment with minimalist hardware reducing the risk of loss or failure.

Thorax Incog
The Thorax Incog represents the newest addition to the Thorax plate carrier product family. The Thorax Incog introduces a low visibility carrier with scalable modularity to evolve with changing threat levels and operating environments. Designed in collaboration with AFSPECWAR ASOS and Pararescue operators, the Thorax Incog features a new “TABLOC" attachment system on the front plate bag for rapid attachment of the Incog Triple Rifle Mag Placard (Incog TRMP) avoiding MOLLE weaving and buckles when scaling the Thorax Incog for rifle magazine carriage. The Incog Plate Bags were constructed with 4-way stretch materials for all day comfort and to accommodate both ESAPI and low visibility plates (with soft armor plate backer). The Incog Elastic Cummerbund features built-in pockets for low visibility magazine and radio carriage. The laminated cup design allows for fast and efficient draw and holster of the laser. The innovative “Ice Axle” lever latching system secures the laser in the pouch and can be operated single handed (extremely useful while under canopy during HAHO/HALO operations). The included gear keeper with retractable lanyard ensures the laser is securely retained while in use or stored in the pouch.

SIR Hanger Kit
The SIR Hanger Kit was designed in collaboration with NSW G1 FIREs to accommodate the Surveillance Interface Receiver (SIR) and Infrared Zoom Laser Illuminator (IZLID) for JTAC operators. The SIR Hanger consists of three rows and five columns of MOLLE and features an elastic cable management system on the back panel. The SIR Pouch features padded hydrophobic closed cell foam construction for protection of the Soldier Interface Receiver (SIR) and a MOLLE mounting platform. The IZLID Pouch was designed to accommodate the B.E. Meyers family of laser illuminator designators (Infrared Zoom Laser Illuminators) including the IZLID, IZLID Ultra, IZLID 200P, Glare MOUT and Glare MOUT Plus. The laminated cup design allows for fast and efficient draw and holster of the laser. The innovative “Ice Axle” lever latching system secures the laser in the pouch and can be operated single handed and the included gear keeper with retractable lanyard ensures the laser is securely retained while in use or stored in the pouch. The Umbilical Cord enables end users to accumulate and manage numerous cables from many devices into a single elastic sheath eliminating snag hazards and offering additional protection from the elements.
