Disruptive
5cience™

OVERVIEW

Disruptive Science, or D5, is designed as a foundational course to accelerate the learning curve of all students regardless of background or experience level. Our curriculum is deeply rooted in a scientific approach to the fundamentals of shooting and grounded in sports performance. Many firearms courses focus solely on the gun whereas our multiday course formats focus on the science of the human body, the brain, and the weapon system to advance shooting performance. D5 courses are currently offered in Handgun, Carbine, AK and Subgun weapon platforms as well as a fundamentals of Night Vision course offering.

The pursuit of shooting performance lies within the successful execution of these fundamentals. That success starts with a deep (intimate) understanding of the “why” behind the “how”. Fundamentals are not simply a method, technique, or a program, but a science. In our Disruptive Science course, the approach is designed to develop a deeper understanding of the fundamental principles by creating relevance that shows people how to put their life into shooting versus stuffing shooting into their life. The idea of Thinkers Before Shooters™ comes to life in our multi-day course offerings. Our curriculum is rooted in human learning, biomechanics, and an objective measurable approach to performance. We often hear our students reflect on their growth after this course with the powerful statement of, “This is so much more than I expected. This is also a shooting course.” This statement encompasses the reality that Haley Strategic TRAIN is not about the gun, it is about the human behind the gun.

Core topics covered for all weapon systems:

  • Haley Strategic Train approach to learning
  • Why “science” and how to create a model for excellence
  • Individual belief systems
  • How deliberate practice accelerates learning
  • The brain: cognition, emotion and conation
  • The biology and neuroscience of learning
  • How critical stress (body alarm response) affects visual acuity and efficiency
  • Understanding visual target accommodation

D5 Handgun Sharpening

Just as a knife is forged, folded, beaten and sharpened, we must expose ourselves to these constructive processes with the handgun. This course is purely performance based for those who are wanting to enroll into one of our more advanced courses, wanting to up your qualification score or improve your performance in shooting competitions. The diagnostics based curriculum will establish performance baselines and identify gaps for improvement.

Warning

This course should not be selected if you have not been through a foundational course with us (D5/D7 Courses) or another reputable organization/instructor. All advanced application students must have fundamental weapon safety and weapon manipulation knowledge. A baseline assessment on safety, speed, accuracy, manipulations, and movement is conducted upon arrival to determine if students current skill levels are adequate to safely proceed through the course. Students will be pulled from training for safety violations.

In addition to core topics:

  • Deliberate practice models
  • Balancing speed and accuracy
  • Mastering self-diagnostics
  • Kinetic linking in the handgun draw
  • Eye tracking drills based on ocular movements
  • Stability and mobility exercises
  • Strategies for speed and efficiency of movement

  • Carbine

D5 Carbine

Disruptive Science, or D5, is designed as a foundational course to accelerate the learning curve of all students regardless of background or experience level. D5 Disruptive Science™ Carbine gives students a template for increasing mental acuity, focus, dexterity, balance and spatial awareness while performing fundamental carbine manipulations. Carbine shooting has its own unique challenges associated with the weapon system and how we integrate that system into the mechanics of the human body. The D5 Disruptive Science curriculum dives into biomechanics, ergonomics and mental processing to deliver carbine shooting performance in a foundational course format.

In addition to core topics:

  • Carbine zero data to 300m plus utilizing proper holdovers
  • Mathematical principles of carbine trigger control
  • Explanation of carbine optics mechanical offset and application
  • Carbine manipulations: speed reloads, proactive reloads and malfunction clearance
  • Optics: non magnified vs low power variable optics
  • Sling options and manipulation
  • Adaptive shooting positions and reactive movement
  • Mobility block, dynamic movements, movement to different positions to shoot and shooting while moving

D5 Carbine Sharpening

Just as a knife is forged, folded, beaten and sharpened, we must expose ourselves to these processes with the carbine. This course is purely performance based for those who are wanting to enroll into one of our more advanced courses, or simply wanting to up your qualification score at work or improve your performance in shooting competitions. The diagnostics based curriculum will establish performance baselines and identify performance and or opportunity gaps.
